Piano and Theory Tutor

Iwan Owen has graduated from the RNCM with a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance, where he studied as an ABRSM Scholar. Under the tutelage of Benjamin Frith, he won the Piano Recital Prize in 2018 and was also awarded the Shirley Cattarall Award in 2014.

Iwan has enjoyed success in national and international competitions; a finalist in keyboard category at the Royal Over-Seas League Competition in 2016 and, in 2014, he won first prize at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod and the National Eisteddfod of Wales. He was also awarded Gregynog Young Pianist of the Year in 2013.

Iwan has participated in masterclasses given by renowned pianists including Pascal Rogé, Phillippe Cassard, Vovka Ashkenazy, Kathryn Stott, Stefano Fiuzzi, Federico Colli and David Owen Norris, and has also received lessons from John Perry, Peter Frankl, Paul Badura-Skoda, Peter Hill and Nelson Goerner.

Iwan’s enjoys a varied career as a chamber musician, accompanist and teacher. He has recently joined Ensemble Cymru, and has also been Resident Pianist with North Wales Camerata since 2014. He was accepted on to the Live Music Now Scheme in 2016. He also won the accompanist prize and was highly commended in many of the RNCM’s Vocal department competitions.

Iwan Owen hails from Anglesey, North Wales, and started learning the piano at the age of 7. From the age of 9, he studied with Iwan Llewelyn Jones until gaining a place at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2013.
